April Meeting
04-12-2005

This month featured an advance scout skill: The Soda Can Backpacking Stove. At the left, Frank Cusimano basks in its warm glow. Yanush members were taught how to construct these stoves at our meeting. Before the activity there were a few annoucements, of course. Kent Metzger(right), our Arrow of Light Adviser recognized Nathan DeLamar for all his hard work on Arrow of Light Ceremonies this year. Other announcemence were about the success of Camporee and the upcoming Conclave at Camp Tom Hale in Oklahoma.

The required materials were 2 aluminum cans, a coat hanger, some Perlight, and De-Natured Alcohol. The cans have to be cut to a certain height and holes must be drilled in them. The Perlight is poured inside to help the alcohol burn longer.

De-Natured Alcohol is poured in the stoves and will evenly distribute heat, provided that the holes have been properly drilled. A coat hanger can be bent into shape to support a pot for boiling. Also, a heat shield can be made with aluminum foil or a large coffee can.
