After the success of last month's soda can camp stove, it was appropriate that this month we talked about various types of backpacking stoves. Our Adviser, Mr. Tim Conard, brought his liquid-fueled Whisperlite™ stove(below left) and demonstrated how to properly use it. These small stoves are convenient and lightweight, making them very popular for the average backcountry trailblazer. There are also stoves that use the same standard propane tank as many large Coleman™ camp stoves, they tend to be bulkier and have proven to have poor performance in high altitude situations. This was our last meeting until August, so we hope that all our Yanush members have a fun and safe summer.(below right: new ordeal member, Torsten Knabe, lights a stove.) |
